Understanding Today’s Youth — their culture, psychology and values
This course provides an insight into young people today, covering topics such as youth culture — slang, fashion trends, what’s “cool” and what’s not, major issues for young Singaporeans today; psychology — the reasons and emotions behind youth behaviours; and values — the topics and principles that young Singaporeans give most importance to. The course helps understand youth and appreciate the challenges that young people face today.
Effective Communication with Today’s Youth
Today’s youth seem to speak a language very different and almost alien to that of their parents and of the people in charge of their education and guidance. With the infamous generation gap making communication more and more difficult, how do we talk and listen to young people today? This course provides insights, strategies and tips for more effective communication with today’s youth.
Adolescent Development — Mental, Physical, Social, Spiritual
Step into the skin of an adolescent and learn about what they experience — the mental confusion of developing an identity and making choices, the physical minefield of hormones and body changes, the entry into the world of relationships and friendships that is social interaction, and the development of their spiritual identity. This course looks at the transition period between childhood and adulthood, and the challenges of that time.
Empowering Discipline
Can discipline be positive and not the negative force of rule that it so often is? Are there ways to maintain discipline as well as a positive relationship with youth? Can discipline be empowering instead of dictatorial? The answer to all three questions is yes. This course teaches empowering discipline and strategies on using empowering discipline with youth.
Youth Leadership Development
How do we pinpoint the strengths and talents of a young person and help them tap into them? How do we transform a “herd” mentality into a leader mentality? The process of developing leadership can turn around a young person’s life. This course provides strategies and tips on developing leadership skills and attitudes in youth.

Teaching is one profession that involves 200% dedication — there is significant time involvement, emotional involvement, intellectual and skill involvement, to say nothing of the fact that educators must be mediators, teachers, guides, mentors, counsellors, resources, parents and nurturers all at once. No wonder that burn-out is high in the profession! Learn techniques on how to manage the stress of the profession and lead a healthier, productive life that can greatly improve your professional and personal satisfaction.
Parenting Skills
What do you do with the peculiarly dressed, loud-mouthed, rude stranger — your child — living in your house? How do you talk with them? How do you help your child be a better student? How can you help your anxious child manage the pressures of school and friends? This course in parenting skills aims to help answer these questions, by providing guidance in parenting skills — communicating with your child, helping your child achieve their potential, and helping your child manage stress, among other things.
Basic Skills for Counselling Teenagers
